📈 All because of the new wave of H5N1 bird flu, which has killed 153 million birds in 48 states and wiped out more than 20 million laying hens in the last quarter of 2024 alone. 🐓
🚗 People are lining up in long queues at local farms because prices in supermarkets

are already skyrocketing. Trader Joe's and Kroger have even introduced purchase limits to prevent mass buying, as was the case with toilet paper during COVID-19. 😬
🐔 Some farmers are offering a radical solution: get your own chickens. But there is a catch — you will have to wait at least 6-8 months for the first eggs. And you also need somewhere to keep the birds. 😂
🤦‍♂️In addition, due to the crisis, even young stock has become scarce — farmers say that it is now harder to find chicks than cheap eggs.

Let's compare the contexts of the poultry industries in Ukraine and the United States:
1. Both we and they are large producers and exporters of poultry products.
2. Both we and they are experiencing a crisis with young birds and breeding eggs.
3. Both we and they are experiencing a sharp decline in poultry numbers.
4. Both we and they can only restore these numbers by importing new healthy chicks or special breeding eggs. These are not ordinary chickens and eggs, but very expensive ones.
5.1. Their poultry died as a result of a highly infectious and deadly (at least for poultry so far) flu - H5N1.
5.2. We had our first crisis in 2015, because large breeding poultry farms were located in Crimea and they were quickly bankrupted and closed. Like true Ukrainians, we rebuilt and restarted them. Unfortunately, the Russians destroyed them once again.

Where can you get young poultry and breeding eggs? - In the EU (the Netherlands and France are the leaders).
How long will it take? The last time there was a need to increase breeding eggs was during COVID (for those who don't know, chicken eggs are still used for vaccines). Back then, it took about a year.
Let me remind you that there was a poultry farm in Chornobaivka that produced 1.4 billion eggs per year and was destroyed by the Russians at the beginning of the invasion.
Therefore, jokes about offering chicken eggs instead of minerals in exchange for protection are not really jokes.
