On 12 March, representatives of the Alliance met with Christian Hell, Agricultural Attaché and Head of the Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry and Food Safety Sector at the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.

The main topic of the meeting was the entry into force of the Law of Ukraine "On Veterinary Medicine".

The Alliance representatives stressed the need to develop and adopt the secondary legislation required to implement the provisions of the Law. This issue is particularly pressing given that the Law enters into force on 1 September 2025.

Christian Hell underlined the importance of dialogue between business, the state and EU representatives. He noted that there is currently an active dialogue between the EU and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, and that the assessment of the compliance of Ukrainian legislation with EU law is well under way. The participants also discussed animal welfare and the readiness of the livestock sector to implement the relevant requirements from 1 January 2026.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to:

  • continue the dialogue on developing secondary legislation to implement the Law of Ukraine "On Veterinary Medicine";
  • hold further consultations on the possibility of postponing the Law's entry into force, depending on the sector's readiness;
  • coordinate efforts to support the Ministry of Agrarian Policy in harmonising Ukrainian legislation with EU law.
