The European Parliament has taken a significant step in favour of dogs and cats!
Last week, 457 MEPs voted in favour of the first-ever EU-wide minimum welfare and identification standards for dogs and cats:
✔️ Veterinarians are required to identify and register cats and dogs.
✔️ It is mandatory to adhere to minimum welfare standards for kennels housing at least two litters.
✔️ The sale of dogs and cats in pet shops is prohibited.
The next stage is trilateral negotiations between EU institutions to agree on the final text of the regulation.
The document is expected to enter into force two years after its official adoption.
In the context of European integration, these changes will directly impact state policy in the field of pet welfare.
The Veterinary Alliance of Ukraine is calling for constant monitoring of EU legislative initiatives and implementation of European practices in Ukraine.
